Ex service personnel find adapting to civilian life a challenge. During their military life service personnel have structure and focus. Their daily duties are defined and taken care of. Many of them are not well equipped to suddenly cope with their civilian life. It is estimated that up to around 300-400 veterans in England end up sleeping rough each year.
It is a hard environment when living with long term illness but for veterans it can leave them feeling isolated. This deepens their emotional toll that they and their families already face.
A survey carried out by UK Veterans Family Study revealed that 82% of veterans living in this situation experience loneliness. What's more, 85% of veterans coping with long-term conditions say that they struggle with their mental well being every day.
Veteran life challenges can severely impact their family life.
These statistics definitely highlight the need for support, understanding and a welcoming community network for veterans and their families. Give a helping hand and to help change the lives of veterans and their families for the better.
